Longwood University

Job Title

Assistant or Associate Professor of School Librarianship

Job Description

Longwood University, a historic public liberal arts institution, host of the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate, invites candidates to apply for an Assistant or Associate Professor of School Librarianship, a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. A comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts foundation, Longwood has a distinctive mission to develop citizen leaders who are prepared to make positive contributions to the common good.

Longwood recently celebrated its 175th anniversary and is the third-oldest public university in Virginia, behind William & Mary and the University of Virginia. Longwood is part of the proud tradition of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Roughly one hour’s drive from Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Richmond, Longwood is located in the historic two-college community of Farmville, at a historic crossroads near where the Civil War drew to a close and powerful strides in the civil rights movement began. Today Longwood has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 34,000 alumni. It maintains affiliations with the neighboring Robert Russa Moton Museum of civil rights history and the Longwood Center for Visual Arts, one of just a few dozen nationally accredited university art museums. A member of the Big South Conference, Longwood competes at the NCAA Division I level.

Longwood’s 26th president, W. Taylor Reveley IV, took office in June 2013. The School Librarianship Program in the College of Education and Human Services has been a graduate program for over 25 years and has grown to 100+ part-time students. The College is accredited by NCATE/CAEP and the
School Librarianship Program is Nationally Recognized by the American Association of School Librarians.

The program invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Faculty teach graduate courses in school librarianship on and off campus and via online delivery systems; supervise students completing clinical experiences; advise students; collaborate with colleagues both within the program and across campus; and engage in scholarly research and professional service activities. This is a nine-month position
available in January or August of 2017.
