We seek a creative, forward-thinking Assistant Professor to catalyze this growth, and contribute to our programs in this area. We seek candidates who are interested in a broad array of topics to contribute to our vision of the future of libraries. This future comprises a range of research areas including, but not limited to, data resources and services, libraries and information communication technologies for development (ICTD), digital humanities and cultural heritage, digital archives, libraries as social infrastructure, future of information spaces to serve and facilitate development of diverse populations including children and youth, and global impact of librarians and librarianship, among others. The Information School is interested in faculty and scholarship that will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through teaching, research and service. As information systems and institutions serve increasingly diverse and global constituencies, it is critical to understand the ways in which differences in perspectives regarding gender, class, race, ethnicity, national and cultural boundaries, national origin and other identity dynamics (or identities) can both divide us and present barriers, as well as enlighten us and open new ways of thinking about information access. In particular we are interested in work at the intersection of diversity, librarianship, and the information field, writ large. Candidates for Assistant Professor should have competencies in robust theoretical, quantitative, or qualitative techniques and demonstrate a passion to effect social change through information research. We encourage candidates from diverse fields, including Library and Information Science, Social Sciences, Computer Sciences, Philosophy, and Design, who have interest in, or potential for, wider contribution to the interdisciplinary field of information. The strongest candidates, regardless of disciplinary background, will add to our strategic initiatives in the Future of Libraries and Librarianship and will demonstrate a commitment to educating future information professionals. Diversity is a core value and foundational concept in the Information School. Catalyzing the power of diversity enriches everyone by exposing us to a range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identifying challenges, and discovering, defining and delivering solutions. The iSchool prepares professionals to work in an increasingly diverse and global society by promoting equity and justice for all individuals. We actively work to eliminate barriers and obstacles created by institutional discrimination. In your application please describe your experiences with diversity in your research, teaching and service, and/or your potential to bring diversity to the iSchool and the information field. Discuss your potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations.
