Job Description

The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education, East Carolina University, is seeking a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for the 2017-18 academic year in the area of Library Science. ECU's Master of Library Science degree is accredited by the American Library Association and has three degree concentrations: academic librarianship, public librarianship, and school librarianship. This individual will teach graduate courses and will serve in an additional, value-added capacity to the department through recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts. The incumbent will teach in the program's core curriculum and in the academic or public concentration. The position requires a productive research agenda. Regular in-person presence on campus to contribute to the service needs of the program, department, college, and university as well as service to the broader profession will be required. Because East Carolina University has strong programs and service commitments in health-related professions, interest or expertise in applying librarianship to public health will be a plus.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge

Minimum Qualifications: a doctoral degree in library or information science or a related field--ABD candidates may be considered for appointment at the rank of instructor; ability to teach one or more of the core courses (foundations, reference, technology, management, research, organization of information, collection development, and internship); expertise in academic or public librarianship; evidence of ability to sustain a productive research agenda; evidence of commitment to professional and campus service. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred Qualifications: experience teaching courses at the graduate level; experience teaching online courses; ability to develop curriculum or research in consumer health librarianship; evidence of aptitude for academic leadership; a master's degree accredited by the American Library Association.
