JOB DESCRIPTION:
The School of Library and Information Studies invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The faculty vacancy is a 9-month position; with optional summer employment. The school seeks outstanding applicants to teach in library and information science, with expertise in the areas of information and communication technology, informatics (e.g. health, social, community, etc.), and innovative applications of technology. The school supports curricula for students in the College of Professional Education, College of Health Sciences and the College of Nursing, including a dual master's degree in Library Science and Health Studies and a minor in Library Science for doctoral students in other disciplines.
The School of Library and Information Studies, one of four departments in the College of Professional Education, is committed to excellence in graduate education. Currently, there are 13 FTE faculty lines. The School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman's University offers the oldest continuously-accredited Master's degree program in the Southwest. In addition, the School offers preparation for certification in School Librarianship. The Master's degree programs are available entirely online.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
(a) Serve as the leader in curricular development in the areas of information and communication technology, informatics, innovative applications of technology, and other areas of Library and Information Studies, such as the semantic web, data mining, and digital curation, (b) teach courses in the areas of Library Science at the master's level; (c) advise students; (d) maintain an active research agenda and sustained scholarly productivity; (e) actively serve on department, campus and professional committees; and (f) work collaboratively with colleagues on campus and in the community.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
(a) Earned doctorate in Library and Information Studies, or a related discipline (ABD considered); (b) potential for excellence in graduate instruction; (c) strong potential for teaching on-line courses and the use of technology; (d) strong potential for research and scholarship; and (e) willingness to participate in service activities of the program, department, college, university, and community.
