The Marshall School of Business seeks an outstanding full time faculty member to direct the Master of Management in Library and Information Science (MMLIS) degree program.

 

This position requires firm grounding and experience in management and LIS.

 

Candidates must demonstrate a combination of skills and confidence that will transform education in library and information science through the integration of leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities across the curriculum in an online environment.

MASTER OF MANAGEMENT IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
The Master of Management in Library and Information Science (M.M.L.I.S.)program is uniquely designed to prepare professionals with the practical leadership skills needed to manage libraries and information centers within colleges and universities, businesses, governmental organizations and in the digital world.  Unlike other LIS programs, the online MMLIS program provides a robust leadership, management and library and information sciences focus for students. Each course is taught through real world experience-based learning and teamwork, with faculty support and guidance.  This approach encourages critical and creative thinking and the development of the skills necessary for working effectively in academic and public libraries and other institutions. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

  • Working with the Deans of the Marshall School of Business and USC Libraries, or their designates, their faculty and staff, the successful candidate will:
  • Provide leadership for a unique LIS program in Management and Leadership;
  • Liaise with internal and external constituencies and stakeholders to raise the profile of the program;
  • Provide leadership for curricular development, review and implementation;
  • Design, teach and assess courses for the MMLIS degree program;
  • Teach in an a/synchronous online learning environment;
  • Assess student learning outcomes;
  • Plan, promote, and assess the MMLIS program.

 

All full- and part-time MMLIS faculty are encouraged to make scholarly contributions that advance the field and pedagogy and instructional innovation.  

The successful candidate will be a well-recognized and regarded academic and/or professional providing demonstrable leadership to the field. This position is for an a/synchronous online degree program.

 

This is a full-time calendar year appointment.  Instructional design and media technology assistance is provided to ensure proficiency in using the program's highly interactive learning management system.  The successful faculty member will teach for the program each semester.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Library and Information Sciences or a related field and a terminal degree in Library and Information Sciences as well as a combination of academic/professional qualifications and senior experience appropriate to a graduate academic program offered in management. The applicant must have experience in and be comfortable with teaching in an online setting.

 


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

 

  • The candidate will have demonstrated:
  • Experience in senior leadership positions;
  • Qualifications and experience in a business environment;
  • Experience developing and teaching academic courses in management and library and information science at the graduate level;
  • Experience with teaching or instructional methods and principles, particularly in an online environment;
  • Experience assessing student learning outcomes;
  • Experience using social media, computer-assisted learning applications, or have previous experience using technology to support instruction and learning;
  • Demonstrated skill in responsiveness to diverse student populations;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work in a collegial, collaborative environment;
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and changing academic and budgetary situations;

Rank and salary commensurate are with experience and qualifications. If mutually desirable, a joint senior appointment could be made with USC Libraries. Candidates cannot be USC students.
