Presentation Description:

This webinar provides a practical approach to making online course materials accessible. We'll look at accessibility checkers, explaining their limitations; we'll discuss accessibility options for print and visual materials, as well as use of video captioning and simultaneous captioning. The emphasis is on practical advice to guide participants on what are the easiest accessibility tasks to accomplish, the use of templates and automated processes to reduce the time involved in ensuring our materials are accessible and suggesting useful resources for further exploration.

 

Presenter Bios:

Andrew Smith

Dr. Andrew Smith is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) at Emporia State University, is a co-convener of SIG Disabilities, and serves as the Board Chair of the Emporia Public Library. He teaches in the areas of collection development, library advocacy, multiple literacies in libraries, genealogical resources and techniques and is active in SLIM’s Global Experiences program, having led 17 trips visiting libraries and archives overseas. 

Sarah Sutton

Dr. Sarah Sutton is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) at Emporia State University. She teaches in the areas of collection development, organization of information, metadata, digital library development, and electronic resources management. Her research areas of interest include use and adoption of electronic textbooks and open educational resources.
