This panel aims to provide an understanding of racism in America from a historical perspective and within the context of critical race theory.


Presenters Bio
:

Dr. Renate Chancellor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at the Catholic University of America. Her research focuses on human information behavior, organizational leadership, and social justice in LIS. She is recipient of the ALISE Leadership Award and the ALISE Excellence in Teaching Award. Her recently published book, E.J. Josey: Transformational Leader in the Modern Library Profession was published in the ALISE Book Series. 

Dr. Rajesh Singh is an Associate Professor in the Division of Library and Information Science at St. John’s University in New York. His current research interests revolve around cultural intelligence, knowledge management, and information behavior. He teaches courses in cultural competence, knowledge management, project management, marketing and advocacy, leadership, and research methods.

Joe Sánchez is an Associate Professor at Queens College, City University of New York. His research focuses on the information worlds of Mexican-American youth and the use of emerging technologies to support critical pedagogies. He is a founding member of the iSchool Inclusion Institute (i3).  As a Chicano scholar from South Texas, he expresses his work as an interplay between identity, narrative, community and the virtual self.

Dr. Tony Dunbar received his Ph.D. from UCLA Department of Information Studies. His research is heavily focused on critical race theory in LIS. He is an adjunct professor of sociology at Lewis University and a self-styled thought leader in the areas of equity, inclusion, diversity (EID). Tony hosts and produces EDI focused podcasts. 

Paige DeLoach is a first-year graduate student in Catholic University's Library and Information Science program. She supports several social justice organizations in her new hometown of Washington, DC, based around economic equity and liberatory education for Black youth. She is a graduate of Cornell University, where she majored in Linguistics and completed minors in Law & Society, Inequality Studies, and Policy Analysis & Management. Paige currently works on the Harwood Institute’s Network Engagement team by providing expertise on the organization’s digital communication platforms.
