Presentation Description:

From the COVID-19 pandemic to political upheavals and rapid technological advances, change is afoot across many higher education institutions. How can leaders in the information field respond and navigate these changes? What are the new realities that higher education has to deal with, and how can the information field pivot or adapt? These questions will be explored in a panel discussion by leaders in the information field.


This webinar is the first in a series associated with the ALISE 2022 Leadership Academy. Attendance at the webinars is highly encouraged, but not required to register for the 2022 Leadership Academy workshop immediately following the 2022 ALISE Annual Conference.

Presenter Bio:

 

John BertotJohn Bertot is the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Maryland, and oversees all aspects of a faculty experience at the University. He has been a Professor in the College of Information Studies (the iSchool) since 2008, and has served as co-director of the Information Policy & Access Center (iPAC). John served as director of the iSchool’s Master of Library Science program from July 2011-July 2015. Prior to joining the iSchool, he was Professor in the iSchool at Florida State University. His research spans information and telecommunications policy, public service innovation, digital government, and library planning and evaluation. He received his Ph.D. from the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University in 1996.
 

Sulima HawamdehSuliman Hawamdeh is a Regents Professor in the Department of Information Science, College of Information, University of North Texas. He founded several academic programs including the Master of Science in Knowledge Management at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the Master of Science in Data Science at the University of North Texas. He served as the Information Science Department chair from 2010 to 2018 at University of North Texas and directed the interdisciplinary PhD program in Information Science. Dr. Hawamdeh is the editor in chief of the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management (JIKM) and editor of the book series on Innovation of Knowledge Management Published by World Scientific. In 2020, he received ALISE Award for Professional Contribution to Library and Information Science Education and in 2021, selected as distinguished member of ASIS&T.

 
Sandy HirshDr. Sandra Hirsh is Associate Dean for Academics in the College of Professional and Global Education at San José State University (SJSU). She previously served as Professor and Director of the SJSU School of Information for ten years. She is immediate Past President of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) and has also served previously as President of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T). She co-founded and co-chairs the global virtual Library 2.0 conference series. The third edition of her textbook, Information Services Today: An Introduction, will be published in March 2022 by Rowman & Littlefield. She holds both a bachelor's degree and Ph.D. from UCLA and a MLIS degree from the University of Michigan.
