Dr. Michele A. L. Villagran, Assistant Professor from San José State University School of Information, will lead a discussion about cultural competence in research including defining cultural competence, examining the importance of including cultural concerns in the research process, and offering examples of recommended criteria for culturally competent research. Dr. Villagran will also share models behind cultural competency used in practice.

 

Presenter Bio:

Michele Villagran

 

Dr. Michele Villagran has over 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors. She is an assistant professor with San José State University School of Information where her research focuses on cultural diversity and social justice in library and information science and cultural intelligence phenomena. Dr. Villagran is also the founder of CulturalCo, which provides consulting services in conflict management, bias, emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, diversity, and inclusion. She is an advanced certified cultural intelligence and unconscious bias facilitator through the Cultural Intelligence Center.
