Assistant or Associate Professors
Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management seeks two assistant or associate professors to teach in its doctoral and accredited MLS programs. The positions are for nine-month contracts with an option for summer teaching and include generous health insurance and retirement benefits. Screening will begin November 1 and continue until the positions are filled.
Successful candidates will have doctorates in library/information studies or a related discipline and teaching and/or research expertise in at least one of the following areas: archives and records management, child and young adult resources and services (especially preschool), information technology, and public libraries. Other desired qualifications are experience with a course management program such as Blackboard, teaching and research experience, and commitment to service.
All SLIM faculty are expected to 1) participate in the doctoral program by serving on dissertation committees and conducting collaborative research with students and 2) teach at least two theory courses in the core curriculum: Foundations of Information Transfer ,Theoretical Foundations of Service, Theory of Organization of Information, Organization Theories for Administering Information Agencies, Global Information Infrastructure, and Research Methods. SLIM offers the following programs: undergraduate Information Resource Studies, ALA-accredited Master of Library Science, and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Management. Classes are taught at the Emporia campus as well as at SLIM’s off-site regional locations in Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Kansas City. SLIM core theory and tools courses are taught by full-time faculty and most applications courses are taught by local practitioners who serve on the SLIM national faculty. Many courses are taught in weekend-intensive classes supplemented by online instruction via Blackboard and Adobe Connect; some electives are taught totally online.
Emporia, population 30,000, is located in the beautiful Flint Hills area of Kansas. Emporia combines the attributes of small-town living with easy access to several major metropolitan areas (Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City are all less than an hour and a half away).
