Responsibilities: This position serves as the system administrator for the library’s integrated library system (ILS), and also as webmaster for the library’s website. Responsible for library technology planning, support, and communication. Provides support for technology applications in all library departments as needed. Maintains an in-depth understanding of technological trends and developments affecting academic libraries through a commitment to ongoing professional development. Works collaboratively and creatively with librarians, library staff, Audiovisual Services, ITS, NITLE, and the university webmaster.
As a professional librarian working in a collaborative environment and guiding library policies and decision-making, the person in this position will participate in provision of library reference service, conduct First-Year Seminar library instruction, and take responsibility for select collection development duties.
This is a 12-month, full-time regular position. Librarians at Southwestern University hold faculty rank without tenure, and are eligible for promotion. This position reports to the Dean, Library Services. Librarians commit to continual professional development, attend relevant conferences and workshops, and participate in campus governance as faculty members.
Required Qualifications: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program; experience with an ILS, preferably Ex Libris’ Voyager; working knowledge of UNIX and Windows platforms and applications, and ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems; proficiency with MS Access; experience with and knowledge of library web design standards, web graphics skills, and scripting languages such as HTML, XML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript. SQL, and Visual Basic; excellent interpersonal communication, written, analytical and organizational skills. Preferred Qualification: 2-3 years professional experience as system administrator of an academic library ILS, preferably Ex Libris’ Voyager.
