JOB SUMMARY:
The University of Florida Health Science Center Libraries seek a creative and service-oriented Clinical Research Librarian to join the Reference, Education, and Information Management team. The Clinical Research Librarian provides direct support for translational and clinical research through expert searching, information resource training and support for residents and clinical research faculty. The Clinical Research Librarian brings information resources and services directly to the point of care through rounds, where they facilitate effective clinical decision making. The position is responsible for special projects as assigned, such as collection reviews, development of web-based resources, and service evaluation. The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and, consequently, the Clinical Research Librarian will be asked to serve on various committees and teams. The Clinical Research Librarian performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides reference and expert searching services to support translational research, clinical practice, and medical education.
2. Serves as HSCL expert in evidence-based practice theory and resources.
3. Facilitates the integration of information resources to support diagnosis and treatment decisions through participation in patient rounds.
4. Provides point of need database mini-clinics and other information resources instruction for clinicians, researchers, and residents.
5. Consults with colleagues in the Reference, Education and Information Management department regarding evidence-based instruction for health science students.
6. Attends Regulatory Knowledge and Research Support protocol meetings; provides research assistance to investigators preparing clinical research protocols/IRB submissions and searching for grant opportunities.
7. Selects and evaluates subject based materials related to translational research/medicine and evidence-based practice.
8. Participates in planning, policy formation and departmental decision making relating to health science services, collections and new technologies.
9. Performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school, or equivalent advanced degree in a life or health science field.
2. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
3. Strong commitment to client-focused service.
4. Understanding of and enthusiasm for translational medicine and evidence based practice.
5. Expert search skills; experience searching PubMed, CINAHL, and evidence-based medicine resources.
6. Experience meeting the information needs of clinicians.
7. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services.
8. Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a culturally diverse client community.
9. Ability to work effectively with all levels of library client – faculty, researchers, clinicians, students (professional, graduate and undergraduate), administrators, and staff.
10. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
11. Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
12. Interest in contributing to the profession via research, publication, presentation, and service.
Preferred:
1. Undergraduate or advanced degree in health or life science, or experience serving a similar client population.
2. Experience working in an academic health science library.
3. Experience performing research.
4. Experience searching grants-related databases.
5. Demonstrated ability in developing and delivering instruction.
6. Experience with web-based instructional tools.
7. Experience with mobile applications relevant to health sciences or information services.
8. Conceptual understanding of electronic patient records.

HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER LIBRARIES
The HSC Libraries provide services and programs to support the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing,
Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine; the McKnight Brain Institute; the University of Florida Genetics Institute; the Emerging Pathogens Institute; the Institute for Child and Health Policy; and the Institute of Aging; Shands HealthCare; the University of Florida/Shands Cancer Center; the University of Florida Physicians Clinics (12 primary and 21 specialty care); and the North Florida AHEC program. The HSC Libraries also support 52% ($291,000,000) of all campus research awards by providing up-to-date research content and information access and management support. Since 1999, the HSC Libraries have operated a Liaison Librarian program to facilitate partnerships with academic faculty and programs by assigning each HSC College or Department a dedicated librarian who works closely with its faculty, staff and students.
