Library and Information Science Statistical Report Update November 9, 2012

Data gathering is nearing completion for the Library and Information Science Statistical Report 2013.  This marks the second year that ALISE has employed an online data entry system to gather information for the Report. The system was made available to schools for data entry August 15, 2012 following beta testing by three ALISE member schools.

School reports:  Shortly following completion of data entry, each school will receive a spreadsheet with its data and selected subtotals and totals.  Schools will be asked to review the spreadsheets and report any errors as a means of validating the data.

Update:  As of November 9, twenty-three schools had completed data entry. Five schools had each completed one of the six sections of the survey, two schools had completed two sections, two schools had completed three sections, seven schools had completed four sections, and ten schools had completed five sections.

Reminder regarding Continuing Education section: Schools are expected to complete the first question of the Continuing Education section (V.1 Does your school have a continuing education program?) regardless of whether the school has a continuing education program.

Questions about the Library and Information Science Statistical Report and the data entry system should be addressed to [email protected].

ALISE has published the Library and Information Science Statistical Report annually since 1980.  The 2012 Report is available to members online at by clicking here. The Report presents data on the faculties, students, curricula, income and expenditures, and continuing education activities of participating schools of library and information science.  The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies is currently designated ALISE Statistical Data Coordinator under the leadership of Dr. Danny P. Wallace.  ALISE will be surveying the membership and other constituents during 2012-2013 to identify targets for improvement in the Report and the data gathering process.
