The Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications and nominations for an Open Rank, assistant/associate/full position. This nine-month, tenured or tenure- track position becomes effective August 1, 2016. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Summer teaching is normally available as an option.

Responsibilities: Teaching online and face-to-face, research, and service in any area related to library and information studies. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students and candidates for completion of the MLIS degree, community engagement, and service to the Department, School, and University.

Qualifications: Doctorate in library and information studies, education, or closely related field, demonstrated potential for research and publication, demonstrated teaching excellence, and appropriate experience.

Preferred: a Master’s from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. We are interested in attracting candidates who add to the diversity of the department in terms of race, gender, culture, perspective, and academic specialty.

The Department has an enrollment of approximately 275 students in our Greensboro campus and online MLIS programs and ranks as one of the fastest growing online programs. The degree is accredited by the American Library Association and the School Library Program is nationally reviewed and recognized by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and National Council for Accreditation of Teachers (NCATE)(now the Council for Educator Preparation). Founded in 1891, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is classified by The Carnegie Foundation as a comprehensive doctoral, research university with “high research activity” and has been certified as a Community-engaged Institution. The University has a diverse student body, with an enrollment of approximately 16,700, including 3,500 graduate students, and is located in the city of Greensboro in the Triad area of North Carolina.

UNCG is one of four doctoral-granting institutions of the sixteen-campus University system and places strong emphasis on effective teaching as well as research and service to the community.
