We seek candidates who are committed to teaching face-to-face and online in a student- and community-centred environment, who are excited about research and its applications, and who share our passion for libraries, other information centres, and the related professions as they are practiced in diverse communities.

Successful candidates will have a wide variety of demonstrable teaching interests and will be required to teach both foundational and a variety of elective courses in a curriculum aligned with American Library Association (ALA) accreditation Standards. The position requires a team player with an earned PhD in Library and Information Science or a related field. Candidates near completion will also be considered. An MLIS or equivalent is highly desirable. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise and scholarship in library and information studies in the context of communities and cultures of one or more of the following research areas: indigenous scholarship; digital youth, reading and literacy; and/or documents and archival studies.

For nearly 50 years, the School of Library and Information Studies has offered the only ALA- accredited MLIS program on the Canadian prairies. Currently we have 264 students; 147 of them completing the online MLIS. The School has a combined MA/MLIS program with Humanities Computing (HUCO) and an MBA/MLIS program with The Alberta School of Business. Our PhD is individual and interdisciplinary and SLIS faculty act as co-supervisors. The School offers Canada’s only entirely online MLIS degree program.
