Lecturer Position in Library and Information Science
Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing – Indianapolis 
(appointment starting August, 2016)

 

The Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing – Indianapolis invites applications for one full-time lecturer-track faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science. The appointment will begin August 1, 2016 at the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus. This appointment is annually renewable, based upon satisfactory performance.

A committed educator is sought to join our department. We are interested in candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

• Children/youth
• Digital resources and management
• Technology (user experience // information organization// information systems design)
• School media
• Services for persons with disabilities
• Reference / information sources and services

Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching in an online environment and several years of professional (industry) experience in the area of expertise, a deep understanding of career opportunities in the information professions, and a passion for graduate student mentoring and success. Ideal candidates will also shape their teaching in ways that leverage the unique strengths of the School of Informatics and Computing and the IUPUI campus, including its interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and commitment to service and community engagement.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in area of expertise; ALA-accredited MLS preferred
• 5+ years of professional experience
• Knowledge of state of the art practice and theory in the areas of teaching
• Effective teaching at the graduate level, and ability to adapt and diversify pedagogy for changing methodologies.

Responsibilities
Full-time lecturer-track faculty commit to a balanced workload of teaching and service, which includes:
• Teaching graduate courses in the LIS department; typically four course section/equivalents per semester and 3-5 different courses per academic year; supervise independent study.
• Contribute to course and curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches
• Advise and mentor graduate students.
• Commit to service at the department, school and campus level, as well as to the professional community.

In 2000 the Indianapolis location of the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science was founded to provide high quality library education to students who could not be residential students in Bloomington. The Department shares in the ALA accreditation of Indiana University, with its own student body, alumni, and curricular design, with an MLS degree and appropriate specializations delivered online. The LIS department is particularly strong in the application of technology to the information professions and in public libraries and children/youth services. Alumni from LIS-Indianapolis are professional leaders in Indiana and beyond. Tenure track and lecturer faculty work together to provide engaged and engaging education with a commitment to the development of the library and information professions. Securing external funding for student support and faculty research is important to the Department and to the School.
