Job Description

The City of Santa Barbara has an excellent career opportunity for an Assistant Library Director. The Library Department provides a full range of modern library services to over 235,000 residents of southern Santa Barbara County through seven libraries. The Department’s resources include a staff of 36 full-time and 3 part-time employees, approximately 68 hourly employees, and an annual operating budget of $8.9 million.

Job Duties

As part of this newly created management role, the Assistant Library Director will work in partnership with the Director to administer and manage all aspects of Library service, providing oversight of major operational areas and acting as a lead member of the Library’s Executive Management Team. The ideal candidate will have an engaging and positive leadership style and will be able to stimulate and introduce change.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Requires a MLIS and 5 years of management or administrative experience including 3 years as a professional librarian managing programs and services along with 3 years of experience supervising professional/technical staff.

Supplemental Information:

The annual salary range for this position is $109,873 – $133,551 DOQ and is supplemented by a management fringe benefits package including PERS retirement.
