New JELIS Editor Announced
The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) announces the new editor of the Journal of Education for Library and Information Sciences (JELIS). Dr. Peta Wellstead from Open Polytechnic of New Zealand/Kuratini Tuwhera, School of Information Science and Technology will first take on the position of editor-designate for the remainder of 2013. She moves into the position of editor beginning with the 2014 JELIS volume 55.
The ALISE Board of Directors selected the new editor in January 2013. Dr. Wellstead’s investigation of recent changes in scholarly communications and open access publishing was one of the strengths that led the board its decision. They felt her research would allow for a smooth transition of JELIS to an online format.
Dr. Wellstead is a senior lecturer in Information and Library studies at Open Polytechnic and teaches courses in research methods and interpretation, accessing information, and user education and reference skills. Her Ph.D. in Information Studies is from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. Previous to attaining her Ph.D., she spent 25 years in professional practice including running her own information management and research consultancy.
Dr. Wellstead’s research focuses on information literacy and the way information builds capacity and supports wellbeing. Her current research is on the needs of information and library science professionals in New Zealand; and the information seeking behavior of New Zealand men who may be experiencing stressful life events.
She has also served as the copy editor of Information Research, and peer reviewer for several professional journals, including Health Promotion International, Australian Library Journal, and Library Review.
She has recently presented at several conferences including, the International Wellbeing and Public Policy Conference in Wellington, New Zealand, the Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Librarianship Conference in Limerick, Ireland, and the ALISE Annual Conference in Seattle, WA.
The board is excited about its choice for JELIS editor and looks forward to working with Dr. Wellstead to continue to strengthen the association’s professional publication.
