Presentation Description:

Designing effective online instruction is important to many LIS instructors who teach in programs that are entirely online. By taking an “instructional designer’s view” of preparing an online course, LIS instructors can implement strategies that improve learning and engagement. Instructional design is an educational science that links the way people learn with the way that instructors teach. The discipline of instructional design is rich with models, processes and practices that can improve outcomes in online learning. In this webinar, an LIS professor and a practicing instructional designer will discuss the foundations of instruction design and how it can be applied to online LIS courses. We approach instructional design from a post-modern perspective: students come to class with abundant access to information sources, a variety of personal goals for their own education, and use complex systems for adapting their own learning.
