Blazed Pathways and Skillful Glancing: Using the Lens of Library History to Focus on the New Information Literacy Framework
Webinar Date: Wednesday, January 14, 2015
Webinar Leader:
Daniel Ransom on behalf of the ALISE Historical Perspectives SIG. Daniel Ransom is the Research and Electronic Resources Librarian at Holy Names University in Oakland, CA, and is an ALA 2014 Emerging Leader.
Description:
Information literacy instruction in higher education is undergoing a major change in emphasis as the existing IL Standards are replaced by a focus on information literacy threshold concepts. As dramatic as this shift appears, in many ways it emulates an approach endorsed by pioneers of academic librarianship. Daniel will look back at the early history of librarians as college instructors to foster a discussion of the new framework for information literacy instruction and how librarians can move forward as an essential part of the ecology of higher education.
