Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition

ALISE 2012 Annual Conference

Deadline for Abstracts: October 3, 2011

Notification: October 31, 2011

Structured Abstract Submission Form (doc 28.5 KB)

The Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition offers doctoral students an opportunity to share information about their dissertation projects with the LIS community. Posters will be judged on the significance of the research topic to the LIS field, the appropriateness of research design and methodology, and a concise description of the results, as well as on the organization, clarity, and aesthetics of the poster. An award will be given to the student whose dissertation research and poster best meet these criteria.

Eligibility: The Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition is limited to 60 posters. Only doctoral students who have completed or are near completion of their research (e.g., the core data have been analyzed; the student is at the stage of drawing conclusions from the research findings) are eligible to enter this competition. The Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition is for dissertation research only.

Submission Requirements: To enter this competition, students must complete the structured abstract form (500 word maximum) and email it as an attachment in .pdf or .doc or .rtf format to the Chair of the Committee by October 3, 2011. Abstracts will be accepted in chronological order until the limit of 60 is reached. A waiting list will then be maintained. A preliminary judging of the first 60 abstracts will be done to determine whether they meet the eligibility criteria. Those that do not will be excluded and the students will be notified. Replacements will be selected in chronological order from the waiting list and these students will then be notified that their abstracts have been accepted for the competition. Students whose posters have been accepted must submit their posters (as a power point file) to the Chair of the committee by November 30, 2011. Failure to do so will result in elimination from the competition.

Guidelines For Poster:

  1. The posters should be mounted on a foam core base measuring no larger than 20 x 30 inches (standard foam core board size). This is large enough to arrange four 8.5 x 11 inch pages or images.
  2. Content may not be layered on the poster surface.
  3. Poster submissions must adhere to these guidelines in order to qualify.
  4. Students whose posters have been accepted are required to register for and attend the ALISE 2012 Conference. There is no waiver of the registration fee for presenters who are selected as a result of the review process.

Instructions for Submission:

Please use the structured abstract submission form and submit the abstract by October 3, 2011 to TBA
